Watch the 3 youtube videos I sent you in the compito message.

In "comment" below, choose 10 food items and IN ITALIANO say that you either like it or hate it (see message for model.)  EX: I love zucchini, I hate bruschetta.  IN ITALIANO, of course.

Read and learn the words in Dispensa 18 on the homepage.
Identify the sound clusters that contain C and G + other consonants or vowels

Notice that the sounds are always regular.

Open Huffington Post, find words with C and G and copy them. Focus on the correct pronunciation of those words, and most of all of the C G clusters.

In "comments" below, report the HuffPost words you found (10 - 15 is fine)

Associate each day of the week with a color (it could be the color of your state of mind or mood. Per esempio: Lunedi' = Nero. Sabato = azzurro)

Per lunedi' 22 settembre n. 2

Find out how to you say in Italian:  "My favorite color is...." and write it.

1) Then, find an object that has that color (usually) and follow this model:

I LOVE THE OCEAN BECAUSE IT IS BLUE

............ .............. ..........  PERCHE' E' ...............

2) Read the comment above yours. Click reply and say that you too love that color or that you don't like it:

Model: ANCH'IO (means= ALSO I, ME TOO)
NO, IO NON..........

Huffington Post Italia compito:

1) Find an article, copy the headline and translate it. READ AT LEAST the first two paragraphs. Copy ONLY THE NOUNS that you think could be useful. NO ADJECTIVES, NO VERBS. ONLY USEFUL NOUNS. DO NOT WRITE THE TRANSLATION (of course you should look up the meaning for yourself.)

2) Read the posting above yours left by the student who preceded you. Click REPLY. Copy the NOUNS from your classmate's comment and give the TRANSLATION.

CONFRONTO Huffington Post in ITALIANO e versione USA.

Is there coverage of similar events?

List a few of the words from the headlines that you understood.

If you understand the meaning of an entire headline, give us the LINK.

EVERYONE: Practice reading the headline out loud: I will ask ANYONE in class to repeat it (and give credit if you do a good job)

PER LUNEDI quindici settembre due mila quattordici --- AMARE

This activity requires attention and organization. No sloppy work, please.

Start from the COMPITO for today: read the instructions about the task about AMARE and USARE.

HERE you will only cover AMARE.

The first person will post NOUNS associated with AMARE. Who is this person? I have no idea. One of you, in any case. Ten-fifteen words will do.

The second person will first copy the list into his/her comment, then EDIT the list, eliminating words that s/he considers not too common or important, and ADD other words. DO NOT GROW THE LIST TOO MUCH. AT THE END WE WANT MAX 20 words.

The third, fourth, and fifth person, will repeat seriatim what person n. 2 did.

AFTER 5 students have worked on the list, the section will be closed.

The next person, person n. 6, will write his/her own personal list from fresh, starting another group of 5 students.
Yes, the second, third, fourth, fifth person will repeat the same activity as the first group.

Next group of five, same routine.  GOT IT?

The distribution rule for the indefinite article in English (you must get accustomed to this kind of lingo) states that   < A > is used before words that begin with a CONSONANT: ex: A TEACHER.

The indefinite article < AN > is used in front of a vowel: ex: AN IDEA.

How do you account for   < A UNIVERSITY> , < A URINE SAMPLE> etc?

Per LUNEDI quindici settembre (1)

What is a NOUN? An ADJECTIVE? A VERB?

How do you say Noun, Adjective and Verb in Italian?

Per mercoledi 10 settembre

Check the "Huffington Post" -- Italian edition, and look for article whose headlines you can understand, or at least make sense of.

Here is one I found toward the bottom of the page:

http://www.huffingtonpost.it/2014/09/05/bambini-bilingue-imparare-intelligenti_n_5772288.html?utm_hp_ref=Italy

In 'comment' copy the web address (URL) of the article and a brief interpretation.

ALSO, very important, LIST THE NEW WORDS YOU LEARNED (only the headline, not the entire article) and that you think will be useful in the future.

====================
Read your classmates postings and leave a comment to the articles you liked or that you found interesting.

FOR WED. SEPT 10

This has nothing to do with the class, but I want to bring your attention to the fact that you are probably among the youngest "eye witnesses" of the 9/11 attack that will be able to tell -- many years from now -- where you were and what you were doing when you heard of it (probably you were already in school or on your way to it.)

You will be asked by younger generations to tell your story as you remember it. It may be worth for you to write down your memories now that those events are still fresh in your mind. In the future you will be able to go back and re-visit details that inevitably will slip from memory.

NOT REQUIRED: use 'comment' to tell your classmates ONE LITTLE DETAIL that in your memory is associated with 9/11. EX: at that time I was living in SoHo and for a week or two that area was open only to residents. I remember having to show my driver's license in order to get back to my apt. To this day, whenever I see police barricades, those wooden, light blue barriers used to cordon off a street, my mind immediately brings back the images and sounds of those days.
